Things to Do & See in Edenton       Directions to Edenton

Arch and Jane Edwards, the owners of the Inn, moved their family to Historic Edenton in 1980. They moved from the Washington, D.C. area where Arch had been a director of McKinsey & Company, the management consulting firm. They were ready to find "the prettiest town in the south", and start a new life. Edenton was, of course, the town and The Lords Proprietors' Inn became their new life.  Now, twenty-four years later, they are still here in beautiful Edenton.
In 1982 they bought the first house in Edenton to begin the Inn, which they named the White-Bond House. This house, built in 1901, is impressively large and superbly finished, an eloquent example of the late Queen Anne style, and one of the five large brick Victorian homes in Edenton built with Edenton brick.

The White-Bond House has eight large bedrooms, two beautiful parlors each with coal burning fire places, and a guest service kitchen stocked with soft drinks and bottled water, homemade cookies, and the makings for coffee and hot tea.
Each of the beautiful White-Bond House Parlors are wonderful places to enjoy a glass of port or sherry before dinner, or our homemade cookies. The parlors are also wonderful rooms for small informal meetings. Each parlor has doors that can be shut for private meetings.  High-Tea is served in the front parlor during our Historic Preservation Weekends, as well as for our New Year's Eve celebration.  Click here for pictures of all of our guest rooms.
When the house next door came on the market a year later, Jane and Arch were ready to expand the Inn. The Satterfield House (c.1801) is the oldest house on the block. We have recently converted the four guest rooms into two luxury suites with king-size beds, large whirlpool tubs, wood burning fireplaces, wet bars with refrigerators, and an elegant yet comfortable decor. The first floor of the Satterfield House houses the Inn's library. We urge our guests to browse the selections of books and periodicals during their stay.
In 1988, we added another building to the site.  The Pack House, built in 1915 as a tobacco storage barn, was cut in two and moved onto the property from Strawberry Hill Plantation. Since the structure had few interior walls, Arch was able to design a building tailored to guest needs. The Pack House offers eight large guest rooms and features a huge parlor with two fireplaces, an overlooking balcony, and a wonderful porch.

The parlor of the Pack House spans the entire length of the house with two coal-burning fireplaces providing a cozy intimate setting in the winter time.  There are comfortable seating areas, plenty of reading materials, and complimentary sherry and port out for our guests to enjoy.  The guest kitchen is at the far end of the parlor, and is stocked with  soft drinks, bottled water, coffee, hot tea, and homemade cookies.

The Pack House is an ideal spot for family reunions, large groups, and receptions.  Click here to see pictures of all of our guest rooms.

The 1870 Tillie Bond House cottage was completely renovated and furnished in the fall of 2006.  This two-bedroom, two bath cottage is the ideal place to stay when traveling with your family.  The charming cottage boasts 10 foot ceilings, and in addition to the two spacious bedrooms and baths, it has a large living room with TV and DVD player, a dining room, fully equipped kitchen, and laundry facilities.  This cottage can be rented by the night for $350, plus tax, or on a monthly basis for longer term rental.

To complete the Inn, Arch designed the Whedbee House to provide a dining room andExceptional food, The Lords Proprietors' Inn commercial kitchen. The Inn serves a full breakfast daily, which is included in the room rate.  The country breakfast includes hot coffee, tea, juice and fresh fruit, as well as a wonderful hot entree each morning.  Some of our guests' favorites include oven baked French Toast with a homemade berry syrup, Lemon Soufflé Pancakes with orange syrup, and our Sausage, Egg and Cheese Casserole served with homemade blueberry muffins, biscuits, Tomato-Zucchini Casserole, and creamy grits.

The Edwards have created a traditional village inn. The  architecture and furnishings reflect periods from the Federal to the Victorian eras. Each guest room, with its own private bath, is large and meticulously decorated with antiques and fine reproductions. Cable television, VCR, and telephones are in each room. The Pack House and the White-Bond House both have guest service kitchens.

"We have stayed at inns on the west coast, the east coast, and places in between. This is by far the best managed and most comfortable of all." --CB, Norwalk, CT
